Week One Mask Challenge

Welcome to MaskMaking March! This is our second year doing this, and we welcome any newcomers! Feel free to join in! Each week in March, we’ll post a new Challenge, and participants have one week to make a mask to fit the Challenge, and post it up on your social media of choice. Last year, one of the Challenges was to make a monochrome mask, where all the elements were the same colour. Participants made creative use of different textures and materials in the same colour to make interesting masks. Well this year, we want you to do the same thing—except make each half of the mask a different colour! Pick any wrestler, past, present, or not-yet-existing, and make them a mask that has two monochrome sides, each a different color. For example, the Myzteziz mask accompanying this post is red on one side, and silver on the other. You can use any wrestler and any colours you like. So for the Week One Mask Challenge, you should make a double monochrome mask, using a different colour for each side.

Here’s some examples of single colour monochrome masks to give you ideas, but you should make a mask that uses only a single colour on each side.

As always with MaskMaking March, you have one week to make your mask. We encourage everybody to post their masks to your online home of choice by Sunday, March 8 with the hashtag #MaskMakingMarch. We’ll repost everybody’s masks here on the website. (If we don’t see your mask and repost it, please send us a link!) Next Sunday we’ll have a brand-new Mask Challenge for Week Two!

Note: I couldn’t find a pictorial example of a “double monochrome” mask, so the Sin Cara picture was made using two Myzteziz pictures from the fine folks at Mr. Maskman: here and here. By the way, I’ve bought several pro grade masks from Mr. Maskman, and they have been excellent. I highly recommend browsing what they have to offer!
